How to make a sticky message on Discord

Sticky messages vs pinned messages

Discord's built-in pinned messages are saved in a list that people have to open. In a busy channel, almost nobody does. A sticky message stays at the bottom of the chat instead: whenever new messages push it up, a bot reposts it and deletes the old copy.

Discord doesn't have sticky messages built in, so you need a bot. This guide uses PinPal, which is free for 10 sticky messages per server, including embeds and buttons.

Step by step

1. Add PinPal to your server

Invite PinPal and pick your server. You need the Manage Server permission to add bots. In the channels you want to use, PinPal needs to view the channel, send messages, embed links and read message history.

2. Run /setup and click New pin

Type /setup in any channel. PinPal replies with a panel only you can see. Click New pin.

3. Write your message

Click Write message and choose:

• Text for a normal message. Markdown and emoji work.
• Embed for a card with a title, description, footer and a coloured edge. Great for rules.

Write it and press Submit.

4. Choose channels

Open Choose channels… and pick where the message should stay. You can pick up to 25 channels or threads at once. Click outside the menu when you're done.

5. Save

Press Save. PinPal posts the message straight away. From now on, a moment after anyone sends a message, it reposts yours at the bottom and removes the previous copy.

Tips for great sticky messages

• Keep it short. The pin shows up constantly, so a few lines with a link beat a wall of text. Put details behind a Rules or Website button (up to 20 per pin, one per line as Label | link).
• Pick the right delay. In busy channels, a delay of 5 to 15 seconds lets conversations flow before the pin comes back. Premium can wait up to 30 minutes, or repost after a number of messages.
• Use one pin in many channels. Select several channels in the same save instead of making the same pin again.
• Reuse it. In the editor, Export → Save as preset keeps a copy for later.
• Already have the message? Right-click it, choose Apps → Create Pin, and PinPal copies it into a pin.
• Make it feel native (Premium). Give the pin its own name and avatar, rotate between several messages, or add live details like {member_count}.

To change or remove the message later, run /setup, choose the pin from Choose a pin to edit…, and edit or delete it.
